If your goal is a tax deduction for this year, here is the key rule: the IRS uses your pickup date as your donation date. When Sound Car Relief and Heritage for the Blind send a licensed tow truck to your Tacoma-area address and it picks up your vehicle on or before December 31, your deduction counts for this tax year—even though the vehicle will be sold later and your receipt will arrive after that. The fastest path is simple: take two minutes to submit the form or call now, answer a short callback to lock in your pickup time, and you’re done.
Sound Car Relief serves donors across Tacoma and the Puget Sound region—whether you’re in North End, Hilltop, South Tacoma, Stadium District, Proctor, University Place, Fircrest, Lakewood, Puyallup, Fife, Federal Way, or anywhere in between. Your car doesn’t need to run, pass inspection, or have current registration. We arrange free, nationwide towing, typically the same day or next business day in most metro areas. Heritage for the Blind is a registered 501(c)(3), and your donated vehicle helps support services for people who are blind or visually impaired. Take two minutes now, before year-end pickup slots fill up.

Step 4 – Sign title at pickup and you’re done
About 5–10 minutes at your curbWhen the tow truck arrives, you hand over the keys (if available) and sign the title over to Heritage for the Blind. The driver will guide you through where to sign. Step 5 – Vehicle sale and your tax receipt

Year-end tax deduction facts
Dec 31 pickup = this year’s donation date
For IRS purposes, your contribution date is when the charity takes possession of your car. If your Tacoma pickup happens on or before Dec 31, the deduction applies to this tax year—even if the sale and receipt occur later.
Receipt or IRS Form 1098‑C after sale
After your vehicle is sold, Heritage for the Blind sends you a written acknowledgment or IRS Form 1098‑C within 30 days of the sale. Keep this with your tax records; your tax professional will use it when preparing your return.
Deduction generally equals sale price
In most cases, the maximum deduction is the vehicle’s gross sale price, as shown on your acknowledgment or Form 1098‑C. You typically claim this amount as a charitable contribution when you itemize on Schedule A of your federal return.
Itemizing on Schedule A is required
To use a vehicle donation as a federal income tax deduction, you generally must itemize your deductions on Schedule A instead of taking the standard deduction. Check with a tax advisor to confirm what’s best in your situation.
Title in your name; car doesn’t need to run
You’ll need to be the legal owner and have the title so you can sign it over at pickup. The vehicle does not have to run, pass inspection, or have current registration for you to donate it through Sound Car Relief.
